Day 1: Arrive in Volcanoes National Park by road, afternoon village tour
Welcome to the land of a thousand hills! It is likely you have already been in Rwanda for a bit and have seen some of the beautiful sights.
However, even in a country as breathtaking and diverse as Rwanda, no wildlife experience compares to meeting face to face with the mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park.
Located in Northwestern Rwanda, the country’s first-ever National Park (established in 1925) is the premier destination for gorilla safaris in this part of the World.
At 160 square kilometers, it is the second smallest National Park in the country.
You will arrive in Volcanoes National Park via private road transfer, likely from Kigali City. The journey lasts about three hours, and you will get to the Lodge just in time for lunch.
After dropping off your bags, you will have a briefing, check in, have lunch, and relax or go for an afternoon village tour.
For the village tour, you will visit the Gorilla Guardian Village to learn about the traditional lifestyle and customs of the people.
Tours involve visits to the traditional herbalist, taking part in banana beer brewing, and Intore dance and music performances.
After the productive day, return to the Lodge for dinner and an early bedtime in preparation for the next day’s adventure.

This is the long-awaited day as you get to meet face-to-face with the endangered mountain gorillas. This 16000-hectare Protected Area is a haven for the exceptional Giant Apes occupying the bamboo forest.
Start the day with breakfast at the Lodge, followed by a transfer to the Park Headquarters at Kinigi for a briefing on guidelines to be followed while searching and spending time with the mountain gorillas. You will first be transferred to the starting point by vehicle, and this will be about 20-30 minutes away.
Start the trek slowly, and as you don’t know how long the trek will last, take some time to breathe and stay hydrated throughout the walk.
After a guided trek lasting 1-4 hours, you will be signaled by the Ranger guide to leave your bags behind before approaching the mountain gorillas.
Take as many photos of the beautiful birds, butterflies, and colorful plants while trekking, and you will also have one hour to watch and learn about the Giant Apes.
After your moment with the mountain gorillas, return to the Lodge for a hot meal, then spend a few hours resting and catching up on sleep after your early rise.
