Safari overview
2 Days Akagera National Park Safari: This quick two-day wildlife tour of Rwanda’s only savannah-dominated Protected Area, Akagera National Park, is almost literally a “feather in your cap”.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness some of Africa’s most sought-after wildlife species, from the Big Five Game (Lions, Rhinos, Elephants, Leopards, and Buffaloes) to antelopes (Topis, impalas, Cape elands, Defassa waterbucks, Oribis, and common duikers, among others).
Interestingly, this short tour is also a classic safari adventure, as in just two days, you will enjoy the unbeaten natural beauty and wildlife in the 112200-hectare safari destination.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park by road, afternoon water safari on Lake Ihema.
Your day starts in Kigali City, where your safari guide will pick you up for the three-hour drive to the East circuit near the border with Tanzania.
Your final destination is Akagera National Park, which encompasses 1122 square kilometers of savannah plains, woodland areas, wetland and papyrus, riverine forest, and lakes, among others.
Akagera National Park is popular mainly for being the country’s only Savannah-dominated National Park with large herds of elephants, Buffaloes, Rhinos, and prides of lions.
The Park’s sweeping savannah plains make it easy to spot these majestic wildlife species as they wander across the savannah.
Upon arrival, you will check in to your beautiful accommodation in or around the National Park.
After settling in, enjoy a hot meal followed by an afternoon boat cruise. This activity is a wonderful opportunity to see the Lake’s beautiful avifauna species such as Papyrus gonolek, African fish eagles, and others.
Also expect aquatic wildlife species such as hippos and crocodiles up close. It is an interesting experience cruising through the shimmering waters as African cormorants and pelicans wander along the surface while African bush elephants graze along the shores.
Dinner at the Lodge.
Meals and overnight at: Wilderness Magashi Camp (luxury), Akagera Game Lodge (midrange), or Akagera Safari Camp (budget).
Inclusions: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Some Lodges include house drinks and laundry.
Exclusions: All premium drinks.

Day 2: Akagera game drive and transfer to Kigali City
Be up early for a game drive in Akagera National Park to explore its diverse ecosystems. First ensure to check-out so you proceed to Kigali City after the game drive.
As you go, expect to enjoy beautiful sights and sounds of different plains wildlife species such as Masai giraffes, Zebras, elephants, impalas, Oribis, African bush elephants, Cape buffaloes, Rhinos, and (if lucky) Lions and Leopards.
At the end of the 3-4-hour game drive, you will transfer back to Kigali City in time to catch your flight home or continue to your Hotel for more of your programs.

What you need to pack for your 2-Day Akagera National Park Safari
In general, when packing for your 2-Day Akagera National Park Safari, less is more, and what to pack depends on the time of year you will be traveling.
For clothing, think about short-sleeved T-shirts and linen long-sleeve shirts for protection against the sun and insects in the evenings. You also need long pants/trousers and pair/s of shorts in lightweight material.
We also recommend packing a warm sweater, a pair of casual shoes like sandals for relaxing at the Lodge, and swimwear if the Lodge you are staying in has a swimming pool.
Other essentials include sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen, a camera, a torch, a pair of binoculars, and personal toiletries (insect repellent, shampoo, body wash, lip balm, and others).
